First Night in Tumaini

Last night was my first night as "houseparent" in Tumaini Home, a home with 15 children ranging in ages from 5-14. Tumaini means hope, and right now they are hoping that new parents will arrive soon as their last parents left yesterday morning to pastor a church.
Evening began at 5:00 as Baby Benson, 9 months old, was handed over to my care. Devotions led by the children lasted longer than usual as the children shared their sorrow over Joel and Sally leaving. Supper consisted of greens and ugali, which I graciously offered my portion to the extra hungry children! Chores and bedtime followed. The older girls stayed up as I bathed Benson, fed him a bottle and put him to bed in my room. Even though I was really tired, I had trouble going to sleep because my heart was hurting over the children's sorrow. I prayed that God would use me to help comfort them.
Although the children are on a school break, the older ones were up at 6:15 AM doing chores and preparing breakfast (bread and milk), and the younger ones soon followed. Baby Benson slept through the night (thank you Jesus!) and awoke at 7:00. I loved every minute of my first day as houseparent, except for watching their hearts break as the former parents left.  Please pray that God will comfort them and that He would show love and compassion through me as we wait and pray for the right couple to fill this position.
